Nandi County has six constituencies which double as sub-counties. There are 30 wards in the county. The majority of people in the county are Nandi, a sub-group of the Kalenjin tribe. The Nandi mainly practices subsistence agriculture and livestock rearing, although more people are turning to cash crop farming growing mostly wheat and tea.

Kapsabet Town

Kapsabet is the capital of Nandi County. It hosts a municipal council and divisional headquarters of Kapsabet administrative division. Kapsabet is an agricultural town with its environs a large tea and maize farms as well as a number of horticulture and dairy concerns.

The town has a milk depot operated by New Kenya Cooperative Creameries and the KTDA Chebut Tea Factory. Real estate development has seen substantial growth, particularly since the advent of devolution. Roads in Nandi

In 2013, the County Government of Nandi maintained and improved 450 km of earth roads. In 2014, this was increased to over 600 km, while ongoing programs for 2015 will have a total length of 800 km. The County Government has also completed 5km of urban tarmac roads in Kapsabet and Nandi Hills towns, a bus park in Lessos urban center, 5 reinforced concrete bridges, and 25 vented drift culverts across the County.

The County has also installed 40 street and public area lighting in major urban centers with the aim of enabling the County Government to carry out more road maintenance and improvement works so it can quickly respond to emergency works.

Construction Sector in Nandi

Construction of the Nandi co-operative creameries Kabiyet phase 3 is set to commence late this year. In 2021, the auditor general questioned the inability of the Nandi County government to complete 491 projects valued at Sh1.3 billion in the 2018–19 financial year. In her report on counties, she says records indicate that the county government allocated the money for these projects but at the time of the audit, only one project had been completed. Another 110 were in progress and 310 had not started.

Some of the key remaining projects are yet to be completed. DP William Ruto has promised the residents a great change in case elected to the top seat. The pending projects are seen as an important catalyst for the real estate market in Nandi.
